What is The IBS Program?

The IBS Program is a collection of resources and appointments with an Accredited Practising Dietitian to help educate and treat those who are suffering from the symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome. The program includes an initial online consultation (45-60 minutes) with a Dietitian, a package of resources which educate and guide you through the first stage of management and a further 3 review consultations (20-30 minutes) to guide you through treatment of your Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

The IBS Program is designed to educate sufferers on the cause of their symptoms of Irritable Bowel Syndrome and how to learn and manage this through dietary changes whilst maintaining a balanced, healthy diet and protecting long term health. The program was designed and created by Ellen Kessling, a Dietitian and Nutritionist who specialises in gut health and treating patients with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Why The IBS Program?

I have always been interested in learning about gut health, even before starting my studies in nutrition. I love the impact good quality food can have on our gut and microbiome which can reflect on our functioning body and overall quality of life. I love being able to eat all the variety of food I can and started encouraging others to do the same – until I started working in private practice specialising in gut disorders.

I was surprised by the number of patients who were suffering from the symptoms of IBS daily and some people having been diagnosed for more than 10 years without any dietary guidance or treatment. It wasn’t just the abdominal pain and discomfort, bloating, gas, and change in bowel habits, but the overall quality of some of these peoples lives made me feel like I needed to do more to help this population beyond what I can offer in a clinical setting. A 20 minute consultation was not enough support for these people, I felt they needed more guidance and information on their condition and how to manage it themselves without compromising their health long term.

This is when The IBS Program was born!
