Golden Walnut cookies (vegan, gluten free, dairy free)

No equipment needed for this recipe, just a bowl and an oven! The biscuits are best served warm, with a drizzle of golden syrup. If you are not after a vegan cookie, you can definitely swap out the coconut oil for butter and almond milk for milk or any other milk alternative. Also, if you don’t require gluten free, normal flour is a good replacement for buckwheat flour – but keep the almond meal as this adds to the nutty & dense flavour of the biscuit!


  • 3/4 cup Almond flour
  • 1/2 cup buckwheat flour
  • 2 T coconut sugar
  • pinch of salt
  • 3 drops of vanilla essence/vanilla extract
  • 1/4 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 C Walnuts
  • 2 T Golden syrup
  • 1.5 T coconut oil, melted
  • 3 T almond milk


  1. Pre-heat oven to 180 degrees c
  2. Combine all dry ingredients in a bowl and mix (apart from baking powder)
  3. Melt the coconut oil over the stove or in the microwave for ~20 seconds or until melted. Combine this with the golden syrup and almond milk
  4. Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and stir until mixture is moist and forming smaller balls when mixing
  5. Using your hands, scoop out small amounts of mixture and compress between hands to make balls
  6. Place on a greased oven tray or baking paper and press the balls down slightly with the back of a spoon or hands
  7. Place in the heated oven for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

Serve warm with a drizzle of golden syrup

  1. These would definitely be yum…I would ‘approve’ (for me) all ingredients except the golden syrup. Perhaps I could try honey? Thanks for posting

    1. Hi! Yes – the golden syrup really isn’t the healthiest. You could definitely try honey although it may alter the taste slightly – maybe natural mayple syrup would be a good alternative also! Let me know how you go, I am sure they would still be delicious 🙂
